The Khoena Queen
Mixed media on canvas | Sold
Rooted in the landscape and spirit of the Khoi, this powerful work celebrates the Khoena woman as sovereign — dignified, resilient, and unbroken.
Deep reds and blacks surge against a turbulent blue ground, the subject’s gaze holding centuries of story. Crowns, raised fists, and layered affirmations — “Rise up Queen,” “Life is your right,” “Love saves a day” — weave identity, ancestry, and defiance into every mark.
The canvas becomes a living testament to Khoena womanhood; not merely portrayed but proclaimed. Raw brushwork and hand-written text carry the textures of memory, land, and survival — art made where the mountains meet the village, speaking truths that travel far beyond it.
